Biodiversity Conservation in Mexico

There are several types of protected areas in Mexico: federal, state, municipal, communitarian and private. All fall under the supervision of Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (CONANP). The total protected area in Mexico is 25 394 779 ha, which represents about 12.93 % of the national territory. Mexico also harbors a number of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and Ramsar sites.

  • Areas of Wildlife Protection
